Police probe after three hurt in gangland assault

A source said: “The Lyons gang went to the Campsie for last orders but were told the pub was shut and they weren’t getting served.

“They started arguing with men at the bar and were told to get out the pub.

“A few of them were still hanging about after midnight and then all hell broke loose when guys came out of the pub.

“People started getting hit with bottles and Alex got slashed across the face. A guy with him got slashed across the back.

“The police were there within minutes and had the place sealed off.

“They got CCTV footage from the pubs and shopkeeper­s in the street the next morning.

“Derek is really upset that his dad has been so badly injured.

“It’s a really bad situation for him and his family that’s erupted out of nothing.”

Alex is a director of Alexander Lyle Ltd. According to Companies House, the firm are based at the Campsie Bar.

Derek is a director of Derek Lyle Ltd and is described on official documents as a publican. Lyle signed for Queen of the South in 2012 and has scored 45 goals in 125 games for the Dumfries club.

Police described the attackers as wearing dark clothing and aged between late 20s and early 40s.

Lyle said: “My dad is out of hospital but my uncle is still being treated. “We don’t know who was responsibl­e. We don’t want to make any comment.” A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said: “Our inquiries are

continuing.”
