my girls while the other mums managed to run after their kids. I realised then I needed to do something.

“I decided to join my local Scottish Slimmers class and was delighted when Linda came along with me.”

That was November 2014. Since then, she has shed five stones – she now weighs 9.5st – and dropped nearly three dress sizes.

School teacher Linda, also from Edinburgh, says she looked at the weight loss programme and the f lexibility it offered spurred her on.

The result is she no longer feels as though she has to disguise her body in baggy clothes.

Linda now tips the scales at an impressive 8st 10lb and wears a size 10.

She said: “I was someone who ‘wore their weight well’, as some might say. So when I f irst told people I had joined Scottish Slimmers, they said, ‘But you don’t need to lose weight.’

“But I knew I did – and I knew my big sister needed me. I needed her too.

“I’m only 5ft tall and weighed almost 12st so that extra baggage was going to eventually take its toll.” Linda lost almost three stones and has seen her energy levels transformed.

She said: “Even my pupils have noticed the difference. They say, ‘ Miss, you’re looking very healthy.’ It’s my favourite compliment as I know they don’t want to offend me.

“I love the fact that together we have lost double the weight of my niece Hollie, Fiona’s oldest daughter.”

The sisters have acted as an inspiration for their mum, Charlotte Howie, who lives in Inverness.

Linda said: “The best thing about losing weight is being an inspiration to our mother. She has struggled with her weight and body confidence all her life but, after seeing Fiona and I lose weight, she plucked up the confidence to join a class in Inverness.

“It’s on the same night as our class in Edinburgh so we have set up a private Facebook group called Howie Slimmers, where the three of us can post supportive comments to each other.”

Linda added: “We have been there for each other, shared recipe ideas and gone for cake together when it is needed. I am so proud of her – Fiona is the best sister and I know I could not have done it without her.” www.scottishslimmers.com
