Warriors ace Bennett has Scarlets fever

-

Bennett is focused on the Pro12 run-in Mark Bennett has warned Scarlets will prove a stern test when Glasgow Warriors go to Wales on Saturday looking to make it eight Pro12 wins on the spin.

The Scotstoun outfit beat Zebre 43-14 on Friday after upping their game in the second half, which put the reigning champions on cour s e to make the end-of-season play-offs.

The bonus-point victory came on the back of another win in Italy against Treviso and Bennett is now fully focused on the run-in.

He said: “It was really good to get a week away as a group and stay in Italy because a few guys have been away with the Six Nations.

“Now we are all back and on a good run. But this week back in Glasgow we will need to work hard on a few things because the Scarlets are a very good outfit.

“However, we are in a good place with three matches left and are determined to go on and make the play-offs, then anything can happen.”

Warriors have set high standards for themselves – and Bennett insists their below par first-half showing against Zebre has been a wake-up call.

He said: “We know as a group that the f irst half against Zebre was not good enough.

“They came at us quickly and with a fire in their belly. I don’t think we got ourselves set properly or into the defensive structures that we are comfortable with.

“The good thing was that we were able to get one try in the first half and at only seven points down, we knew we were still in the game.

“After the break, things came together well, passes started to stick and we began to attack like we can.

“Some of the tries were really well-worked and it is always good to know how much firepower we have.”

While Bennett’s in Wales on Saturday, Carrick will be playing in the BT Shield Final against Highland at BT Murrayfield.

Bennett, who’s coached the Carrick backs for the last two years, said: “The guys have worked hard and will enjoy their day out at the national stadium.”
