Adam can be Messi of Killie
high hopes Adam Frizzell hopes he can become Ki lmarnock ’ s Lionel Messi after landing a new three-deal year.
The Scotland Under-19s midfielder has only made a handf u l of f irst- team appearances but is rated highly at Killie.
Frizzell stands at just 5ft 8in but he possesses the gargantuan levels of sel f- belief he needs to succeed at the highest level.
And the 18-year- old is modelling himself on the best in the business as he bids to become a star.
Frizzell said: “Messi has always been my favourite player. He’s the one I look to. He’s unbelievable and you can learn so much just by watching him.
“Like him, I prefer playing behind a main striker and in the games where I’m out wide, I always tend to drift in. That’s just my instinct.
“I’m also predominantly left-footed so I’d rather play on the right wing and drift inside – but being in the hole suits me a lot more.”
Frizzell was with the Scotland Under-19s in Croatia for their Euro Elite Round games when talks over his new deal were being thrashed out.
And landing the contract was a boost after he missed out on any game time with Scot Gemmill’s team.
The Killie kid said: “It was a fantastic experience being with the Under-19s.
“It was the Elite Round of the Euros so you were seeing a very good standard of footbal l and it was brilliant to be part of it.
“I wasn’t expecting to go over there and start any of the matches but I thought I’d maybe get a wee run about. Hopefully I’ll get a shot at it next year.”
