It feels Wright mixed

- Gordon Parks

Tommy Wright admits it feels bittersweet after Saints conf irmed their top- six finish – despite a defeat.

But while the McDiarmid Park boss was hurting after losing to Killie he insists the outcome feels like one of his proudest successes.

Wright has faced players being sold and injury setbacks to top stars. He said: “Listen, I’m disappointed today but absolutely delighted to get top six.”

“I am proud of the players. Getting top six this season is even better than last season and previous years.

“We’ve had six players missing today through injuries and sold our best

so bittersweet player in the window.

“So it’s been a difficult season but ultimately other results went well for us.”

Wright admitted his side made it easy for Killie by failing to take chances.

The gaffer said: “I thought 3- 0 was harsh on us.

“We put a lot into the game and didn’t looked in any trouble early on.

“Then we had a f iveminute spell when we gave them some impetus. They went 1- 0 up. They took their chances and we didn’t.

“We probably should have had a penalty with the Chris Kane incident on the line then Liam Craig got a goal disallowed. You will have to ask the ref about that.

“But fair play to Killie – they are fighting for their lives and they took their chances, but I still think 3- 0 was a bit harsh on us.”

With keeper Alan Mannus nowhere, Kiltie nodded goalwards only for Joe Shaughnessy to clear. It was a half chance that lifted the home fans and Boyd rattled a post from a cross by Josh Magennis in the 23rd minute minute. Th e striker was more accurate two minutes later when Higginbotham tapped a free-kick into CRAWFORD ALLAN had a tough day with five bookings and a host of odd calls. 6/10

Krachunov’s trip on McKenzie allowed Boyd to seal the points from the spot with two minutes left on the clock. Perfect time for KRIS BOYD to return to scoring form – showed hunger and class.
