I didn’t mind Ross missing his stag do for Scotland. But he better be there for our big match Striker’s race to Marbella ceremony

PARTNER OF FOOTBALL STAR ON HOW

-

Jenny Morrison He missed his own stag weekend to play for his country but Scotland star Ross McCormack is racing home today to make sure he makes the most important match of his life.

The top striker and fiancee Courtney St John are to marry this week in a romantic beach- side ceremony overlooking the ocean in Marbella.

The couple and their two young sons Layton Harry, four, and Lawson Jack, 11 months, had planned to travel to Spain together for a week of celebrations with their family and closest friends.

But a last- minute call- up to join Gordon Strachan’s pre-Euros Scotland squad put many of their plans on ice.

While his friends and team-mates travelled to Los Angeles last weekend to attend his stag do, Ross was instead playing for his country against Italy.

And while bride-to-be Courtney, 30, heads to Spain with their children this morning, Ross, 29, needs to catch a later flight on his own to get to the wedding party.

Courtney, of Glasgow, said: “When we planned our wedding, we thought we had chosen the date quite wisely – well away from any football fixtures – but Ross hadn’t known anything about the Scotland friendlies against Italy and France.

“When he got the call- up, he was delighted and has always said he would never turn down the chance to play for his country.

“I’m so proud of him and I’m just pleased it was only his stag do that the fixtures clashed with – and not our wedding day.”

The couple, who met in Glasgow through mutual friends and have been engaged for seven years, set the date for their wedding following the birth of their second son last July.

Former model Courtney, who has a business and marketing degree from Glasgow Caledonian University, said: “Ross and I have been together since 2006 and decided last year that we should get married before our 10th anniversary together, which is at the end of this year.

“We never planned a long engagement but time flies when you are busy and having fun.

“We were planning to get married when I fell pregnant with Layton, who will be five soon. After he was born, we were so busy, it wasn’t on our minds.

“Two summers ago, Ross was moving from Leeds to Fulham and we were moving to London so, again, the time wasn’t right.

“We talked about getting married the following summer but then I fell pregnant with Lawson, who was born last July, and there was no way I wanted to be waddling up the aisle while eight months pregnant.

“After Lawson was born, we started talking about setting a date and initially thought it would be good to get married on the May bank holiday weekend, which usually falls just after the end of the football season.

“When we started mentioning the date to people, a few other footballers asked us if that was a good idea. They thought it might be a bit tight if Fulham were involved in the play- offs, which ended up being held that weekend.

“In the end, Fulham weren’t involved but that was the weekend of the Scotland match against Italy.
