Bar that nearly killed girl goes bust

-

A bar who served a teenager celebrating her birthday a cocktail that nearly killed her have gone bust without paying a £100,000 fine.

The move was declared a “slap in the face” to the victim by her lawyer.

Student Gaby Scanlon downed a Nitro Jagerbomb at Oscar’s Wine Bar in 2012 on her 18th birthday.

She was left close to death after exper iencing “an explosion” in her stomach four seconds af ter the cocktail was poured for her.

She was taken to hospital where doctors removed her stomach because of the effects of the liquid nitrogen used in the drink.

Now Oscar’s Wine Bar in Lancaster has gone into liquidation without paying the massive fine and other creditors.

However, owner Andrew Dunn is running a new bar under the title Oscar’s of Lancaster.

Gaby’s lawyer Patricia Noone, said: “Gaby has been through a tremendous ordeal but the one crumb of comfort to her and her fami ly was that those responsible had been brought to justice.

“The fact this fine has not been paid is another slap in the face.”

Dunn said: “We have all the sympathy with Gaby and her family but the company doesn’t have the ability to pay the fine.

“Our aim is not to hurt Gaby but the company is just a piece of paper.

“It was no longer viable. The new company has been set up to safeguard jobs.”
