His only intention was to kill

Pathologist Injuries included a broken nose, broken jaw, broken cheekbones and a skull fracture

A pathologist’s report, heard in court last week by judge Rita Rae QC, laid bare the horrific injuries suffered by Asad when he was stabbed and battered to death.

It reveals the relentlessness with which Ahmed pursued his objective of killing peace-loving Asad in the name of religion.

The most severe stab wound suffered by Asad was more than 16cm deep.

The report also tells how experienced police photographers were given warnings before they looked at his body.

It says: “Asad Shah sustained multiple injuries including a broken nose, broken jaw, broken cheekbones, a skull fracture running from the front to the back of his skull.

“The skull itself was fragmented in a way more commonly seen in the victims of road traffic accidents. His throat and neck were badly injured, his larynx fractured.

“Numerous powerful blows had been inflicted on his head and neck.

“The facial injuries were such that even professional police photographers were warned about the severity of them before seeing the body.

“While the multiple stab wounds were potentially life-threatening, the immediate cause of death was the result of injuries to the head and neck.

“The attack was persisted in so that only death could be the intended outcome.

“The nature of that attack stands in marked contrast to the calm and co-operative demeanour of the accused in the aftermath, suggesting he had achieved his objective.”
