It’s lucky we’re the baddies. Baddies don’t have to sing

She’s been a good fairy and a slightly naughty pirate but this year DJ Cat Harvey is going all-out evil as she teams up with radio partner Ewen Cameron for panto fun.

The Clyde 1 hosts are playing turkey smugglers Smart Cat and Useless Ewen in Glasgow Pavilion’s production of Elfie’s Magical Adventures.

Their characters are based on the baddies from the Home Alone movies so the audience can expect lots of slapstick humour.

Sunday Mail columnist Cat can’t wait to teach Ewen the pantomime ropes but believes he won’t have to try too hard to get into character.

She said: “Ewen has always been destined for panto. He’s a lovable idiot on air so the transition to comedy villain should be seamless.”

Cat, 43, added: “Ewen and I have known each other and worked together for years. We are good friends as well as work colleagues so being a panto double act seems the natural thing to do.

“The only thing I’m a bit worried about is whether I will be able to stick him for 12 hours a day for three months solid.

“I’ve already made a Mariah Carey diva demand that I won’t be sharing a dressing room. He does everything at volume and I don’t think my head could cope with him 24/7.”

This will be Cat’s seventh panto at the Pavilion, having clocked up more than 600 appearances playing everything from a fairy godmother to a fat monk and bad pirate.

For Ewen, 43, making his pantomime debut is both thrilling and scary as he admits he goes into a cold sweat just thinking about having to sing in front of other people.

The dad-of-three, of Falkirk, said: “I cannot carry a tune and, despite being a DJ for more than 20 years, the only song I know the lyrics to is Erasure’s A Little Respect.

“They can make me do whatever else they like – pie in the face, slam dunk me – anything except singing.”

Cat agrees Ewen’s singing voice is not one of his strong points. She added: “It’s a good job we are the baddies as the goodies are expected to hold a tune – and that ain’t happening.” READ CAT SEVEN DAYS
