We’re so cheesed off with curries

-

Curry- lovers have ditched the one-time national dish in favour of Italian staples.

Researchers found that Scotland’s growing love of pizza and pasta has seen vindaloos and kormas lose their coveted crown.

Instead, Scots have revealed how they’ve got the cheese factor with 53 per cent claiming their favourite meals are Italian.

And one in five people in Scotland now eats cheese between five and seven days a week.

A spokeswoman said: “Scotland’s growing love of cheese has even extended to dessert, with sweet treats being pushed off the table.

“We found more than half of us are now opting for a cheese board to finish our meals.

“In fact one in 10 people admits that they never have pudding and will always opt for a cheese board.”

The spokeswoman added: “Around 40 per cent of our respondents said they can’t go more than four days without cheese, and 61 per cent of Scottish homes always make sure they have cheese in the house to satisfy their cravings.”

Food psychologist Dr Christy Fergusson found that 53 per cent said their favourite meals were Italian while just one in five opted for curry.

Some 46 per cent choose to enjoy their favourite lasagne, pizza and pasta dishes on a Saturday

And 41 per cent said they prefer red to sit around a table to have their meal.
