Bear with Kim at Perth on big day of punting

-

Some days were just invented for punting. Today, ladies and gentleman, is one of them.

Euro 2016 Final, Wimbledon final, last day of the Scottish Open golf. It’s a festival for backers and yours truly will be doing his bit for the bookmaking economy by getting stuck into the card at Perth.

You have to hand it to the Scottish tracks. All week it’s been Family Days and my weans feel like stable staff having been carted around the motorways of the country to the nags over the past seven days.

Having managed to get through last night at Hamilton with the wallet in one piece, it’s up to Perth today for another cracking wee card at Scone.

Gordon Elliot is well-known for plundering prizes there and there’s a new face who is quickly gaining a tal l reputation.

Jackie Stephen is t he mos t northerly trainer in British racing.

The Inverurie handler only got her licence last year and, given the geography, it stands to reason she’d have some ammo for Perth.

Bal l inveg ga won the first race of the season at the track back in April and goes for another success in the opener, while Amilliontimes has also won there .

It’s impressive stuff and she’s got Highland Peak in the finale as well. This is a lady to be keeping on side along with local legend Lucinda Russell.

However, when it comes to Perth, there is nobody more trustworthy than The Bear.

The man virtually lives on the racecourse and, if he’s not walking his dug around it, he’s digging out nuggets on raceday.

Rarely have I see him so excited as when he assessed the card last night and the name of Kim Bailey jumped out at him.

The shrewd handler doesn’t travel north all that often but he has a stunning 67 per cent strike rate at Scone and jockey David Bass’ figures are just as impressive.

The duo hook-up today for a couple in Sonofpresenting and Such a Legend.

The Bear has made it clear that’s the way to go and I for one will be joining him in getting on board the Bailey Bus.

Ayr is on tomorrow and there is another couple of days at Hamilton at the end of the week. Let’s just hope the sun comes out.
