Hungry Bennett ready to have the final say

The men’s 4x400 squad also qualified quickest despite the absence of individual gold medallist Martyn Rooney – also bagging the No.1 slot in the Euro rankings.

But Jarryd Dunn said: ”The time was irrelevant, it was all about qualifying in that winning position. The job is done and we have some strong guys to bring into the team.”

Meanwhile, Ohuruogu reckons her past record should get her a free pass to Rio even though her form has taken a dip. The double world 400m champion – who also landed Olympic silver in 2012 – is now on a shortlist of two with rival Anyika Onuora for the third and final berth in Rio.

With Onuora coming third at the trials and snaring individual Euro bronze this week, the 32-year- old Londoner is set to lose out on one more crack at the title.

But she said: “The 400m is a hard race to judge. It’s not like the sprints, you either have it or you haven’t, and peaking is always a delicate balance of timing.

“It’s always a difficult one to call, so you have to rely on the selectors and their understanding of that.”

Scouse speedster Onuora (31) was an unused sub for the relay in Beijing in 2008 but bounced back to help land a world bronze in the Chinese capital last year.

And she claims her results this season can speak for themselves when the final calls are made.

She said: “I’ve been going to Diamond League races and finishing top three, top four, and I know my form is there.”
