Scully I can be No.1 hit

-

Ryan Scully insists he finally has a clear pathway to be Partick’s top keeper after making just 16 starts since his debut five years ago.

The 23-year- old refused to feel frustrated after being a benchwarmer last season, with Tomas Cerny in firm control as Jags’ No.1.

And his patience paid off as he came in for the final six games of last season after an injury to the Czech.

Now, as he prepares for Friday’s League Cup tie at Airdrie he’s been told by manager Alan Archibald the jersey is his to lose.

Scul ly, who had two seasons of first-team action on loan at Dunfermline, said: “It was a great for me to get those six games.

“It’s given me that extra bit of motivation to go and push on now.

“The gaffer has told the Tomas and me that there’s nothing in it. If we’re doing well, then whoever has the jersey keeps it so it basically comes down to who starts the season.

“I couldn’t complain at being on the bench last year because Tomas did so well. He was brilliant and I just had to bide my time.

“However, I def initely think I’m ready. I’ve got ambitions and want to play at the highest level.

“I’ve agreed a two-year contract and, by the end of that, I’ll hopefully be the number one.

“I definitely took the offer of those two years as a show of faith from the manager.”
