I hope we don’t Walk into a right hiding

Liam Walker claims Lincoln Red Imps have two aims against Celtic – to score a goal and not embarrass their loyal fans.

The Gibraltar international can’t wait to go toe-to-toe with Brendan Rodgers’ side in Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifier.

Walker has vowed to make life as difficult as he can for the Hoops.

But the former Portsmouth midfielder says avoiding a heavy defeat would be an achievement – and finding the net against Celts even better.

Walker told MailSport: “This is a sensational match, a Champions League tie against a British club. It’s incredible for us. Celtic will expect to be in the next round but we’ll do everything not to make it easy for them.

“We have to give a good impression. It will be important for the history of the Lincoln Red Imps.

“Our aim has to be to score against them. Apart from that, we have to make sure our supporters aren’t ridiculed.

“We’re the best club in Gibraltar and are trying to enhance our reputation in Europe.”

Red Imps coach Julio Cesar Ribas admits the first-leg tie at the Victoria Stadium on Tuesday will be a historic occasion for the minnows. But he’s adamant that his side won’t make a fool of themselves – and is devising a game-plan to frustrate Celtic.

The Uruguayan said: “From my debut as a manager in Uruguay I’ve dreamed of moments like this in Europe.

“Celtic are superior to us, there is no doubt. But football is a sport for heroes.

“For the people of Gibraltar this is one of the biggest events in the country’s history. We don’t want to let them down.

“How do we stop a team like Celtic? With total concentration and coming up with the best game-plan possible.

“I’ve demanded that the players give me the match of their lives.”
