Tributes paid to teens who died at camp
Tributes were yesterday paid to two teenagers who died at the festival on Friday.
The deaths of Peter MacCallum and Megan Bell were still being investigated by police.
Peter, of Lochgilphead, Argyll, and Megan, of Seaham, Co Durham, were found in separate areas of the campsite in the early hours.
Lochgilphead High School pupil Peter was a member of Inveraray Shinty Club and Gaelic choir Ceann an Turic.
A spokesman for the male-voice choir said: “Peter’s sudden death has been a shock to us all.
“His death is not only a loss to his friends in the choir but the wider Lochgilphead community.”
Pal Kyle Selfridge wrote on Facebook: “Peter was the nicest person I will ever have the pleasure of meeting.
“Not one person can have a bad word to say about this man.”
Schoolmate Josh Coates said: “He was very quiet but he was so kind to everyone he met. He would go out of his way to help anyone.”
Tributes were also paid to Megan, who went to St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy in Sunderland. Kathleen Kelly said: “She was such a beautiful, vibrant girl.”
Chief Superintendent Angela McLaren said: “We are continuing to investigate these deaths and are following lines of inquiry, including the possibility that they may be drug-related.
“I would remind all persons attending the festival that there is no safe way of taking drugs.”
Twenty-three people were arrested yesterday and 280 people had been to the hospital tent by last night, mostly for minor ailments.
DJ and Sunday Mail magazine columnist Cat Harvey told how a nurse friend she was at the festival with helped a collapsed reveller.
She said: “She was fitting, her eyes were rolling and she was in and out of consciousness.
“The paramedics had a bit of difficulty getting to us in the crowd. My friend Lisa knew exactly what to do.
“We stayed with the girl for 25 minutes or so and kept talking to her to keep her awake.”
