Film role? Billionaire Jeff boldly goes for it
Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos has lived out every Star Trek fan’s dream by playing an alien in the new movie.
The tycoon is only in one shot in Star Trek Beyond but it’s enough to earn him a place in the credits – as “Starfleet Official”.
Bezos, who is worth an estimated £48billion, spent a day hanging around on set waiting for his turn in front of the camera.
Director Justin Lin said: “He was awesome. It was like a president was visiting, you know? He had a big entourage.
“But it didn’t matter because he was so into it.
“He had to wait around all day because we were shooting like three different scenes, but credit to Jeff – he nailed it every time.”
Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk, added: “I was there with his, like, nine bodyguards and three limos. It was really intense.
“I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important.”
Bezos, 52, has been a devoted Star Trek fan since watching the original series as a boy in the 1970s.
He said his childhood dreams of space inspired him to found his own space travel company, Blue Origin.
JJ Abrams, producer of the new Star Trek movies, has a track record of slipping surprise big names into his f i lms in cameo roles. James Bond star Daniel Craig played a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
