Former Scotland Sevens skipper Col in Gregor is hopeful there wi l l be a tartan factor in Team GB men’s squad for Rio when it’s named on Tuesday.

Gregor, who won 58 caps for his countr y in the abbreviate­d game, was commentati­ng for Sky Sports last weekend as the hopefuls played at the Exeter Sevens.

And after running the rule over the seven Scots involved in head coach Simon Amor’s squad Toony believes Scott Riddell and Mark Robertson may be best placed to make it.

Only 12 players – plus a couple of reserves – will be off to Brazil next month and Toony said: “These two are really experience­d guys.

“Scott is one of the best in the world around the breakdown area. Mark is great coming off the bench.”

The other Scots in the mix are Mark Bennett, Jamie Farndale, Gavin Lowe, Lee Jones and Joseva Nayacavou.

Meanwhile, the women’s squad is also named on Tuesday and Steph Johnston is the one Scot still in with a chance of being involved. Honda’s MotoGP championsh­ip leader Marc Marquez took pole position at the German Grand Prix for the seventh year in a row across al l classes yesterday – while reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo crashed twice.

Marquez was joined on the front row of the grid at the Sachsenrin­g by Spanish compatriot Hector Barbera of the Avintia Ducati team and Yamaha’s Italian great Valentino Rossi in third. Great Britain made it two wins out of two at the European Under-20 basketball Championsh­ips with a 66- 56 defeat of Ireland in Greece.

They now face Kosovo today as they bid to stay on track for the last eight.

GB’s women play for fifth place at their Europeans tonight after thrashing Romania 62- 42. Scot sprinter Alisha Rees took 200metres silver at the European youth Championsh­ips in Tbilisi last night, clocking 23.70 secs. Striker Kenny Bain, who recently reached his 150th Scotland cap, has moved from Amsterdam to HGC in hockey’s highly competitiv­e Dutch first division for next season.
