Excelsior Stadium after the Hampden pitch was damaged during the recent Beyonce gig.

But there was no star quality from the Spiders who failed to register a single shot on target.

The visitors took the lead in 26 minutes when Jamie Hamill slipped in Anderson and his cutback was slammed home by Pickard.

Dowie doubled their lead eight minutes later when he headed in from Hamill’s corner.

Steven Rigg then skewed a great chance wide from six yards.

Queen’s Park’s best effort came in the dying seconds when Ewan MacPherson scuffed wide from close range.

Spiders boss Gus MacPherson said: “Individual mistakes have cost us dear. But that’s the toughest opposition we’ve played in our preparation for the season.”

Richie Foran lapped up his debut as a manager – although victory for Caley Thistle no doubt helped his mood.

Goals either side of the break from Ross Draper and captain Gary Warren secured the points.

And Foran said: “I enjoyed my first competitive game on the sideline because I’ve got huge belief in all these players. They’ve all got talent.

“It wasn’t the most enjoyable game to watch but I trusted my players to get the job done.

“There’s lots of football to play and we’ ll only get better and stronger in the weeks ahead.

“We deserved our victory on chances alone.”

The Premiership side grabbed an early opener when Scott Boden turned well in the box before cutting it back for Draper, who slotted home from close range after 16 minutes.

But their lead was short-lived as the Blue Brazi l managed

Warren to find a way back into the game 10 minutes later.

Lewis Moore took advantage of sloppy defending to find Dean Brett in the box and he kept his cool for a surprising equaliser.

The visitors upped the tempo, pushing for a second before the break and should have had it in 35 minutes.

Iain Vigurs rose well to get on the end of a whipped cross but his headed effort rattled off the woodwork.

Caley Thistle were on top for much of the second half and finally got their second.

Warren towered above the defence to meet Greg Tansey’s corner and the captain’s powerful effort crept in off the underside of the bar.

Cowdenbeath boss Liam Fox said: “Inverness are a very good side with some very good players. The wind spoiled the game for me.

“It wasn’t great and not one for the purist but there’s positives to take from this and things we need to improve on.”
