They grabbed 43 goals between them in the Championship.

And Martyn Waghorn insists there is nothing to stop him and James Tavernier getting the same return in the top flight.

The Rangers duo were at it again at Fir Park yesterday as Mark Warburton’s side kicked off their Betfred Cup campaign with a win.

After a rusty first half, Rangers upped their game and deserved their three Group F points.

Waghorn teed up pal Tavernier for a brilliant curling finish to put the Ibrox side ahead.

Then the striker, who bagged 28 last term, got off the mark with a terrific left-foot shot late on.

“But I’ll have to pull my finger out and get back this season.”

Waghorn certainly wasn’t slacking yesterday as he capped off an impressive display with his late clincher.

Despite Warburton’s assertion that Rangers dominated from the 12th minute, his side were lucky to be level at half-time.

Motherwel l had enough chances to be out of sight but squandered them.

Mark McGhee included new boys Richard Tait and Ben Heneghan in his back four, while midfielder Carl McHugh started in the engine room.

For Gers, it was a familiar looking line-up.

But Warburton was able to field f ive new boys on the bench including Croatian playmaker Kranjcar, former QPR defender Clint Hill and Windass.

Their most high-profile arrival, Joey Barton, got his first taste of
