Secret of success runs in my family

- BROUGHTY FERRY

Set just back from the shore in the fishing village of Broughty Ferry, Dundee, The Anchor has been run by experienced publican Jeff Stewart for the past six years.

And its polished presentation shows how much Jeff has learned from his own father – after whom he was named.

Jeff Stewart Snr won the Sunday Mail accolade in the 80s with his Dundee pub, the Three Barrels – and now his son is hoping to carry on the family tradition.

Jeff Jnr said: “Pubs are in my blood. I’ve worked in them since I was very young, straight from school. I took a sabbatical from the trade for a couple of years and went off to Tenerife but I missed it and wanted to come back..

“I love the people, meeting new folk every day. I’m a chef too and I love offering great food using fresh produce, sourcing everything locally. The fish comes es in every morning, alongng with butcher meat, fruit and vegetables – and great stuff like that makes it easy for my chefs to make great food.

“But we want to keep the tradition of being a pub that offers really good food, rather than a restaurant with a bar tacked on.” Jeff is convinced that his bar has managed to build businessbusine in the face of competitioncom from lar large national chains b because his staff are s so focused on q quality and cu customer service. H He added: “We’ve got a big local clientele but in ththe summer we get a lot of tourists, a lot of golfers from all over the world. “I’m absolutely over the moon that they think we’re getting it right for them. “They’re what it’s all about.”
