The 33-year-old Countryfil­e star travels a lot with her job and says taking Ernie can be fun – or hell.

Helen said: “He comes with me and then he’ll go off with my mum or my mum-in-law.

“I chat to people until they end up carrying my bags. People are so good.

“An immaculate French lady offered to hold Ernie and he pulled the earring f rom her ea r, blood everywhere.

“I left his baby bag at check-in once and had to go round the plane asking people for nappies.

“And once my plane got cancelled and I got stuck in Barcelona. So I got the train. The wrong train to the wrong town. And my phone died.

“My husband was driving around all these Spanish stations – and me and Ernie were sat having tapas.”

Helen is taking over from Clare Balding to front the coverage of the s w immi n g at t he Olympics in Rio.

And she admits it will be a tough job.
