Trump and decency? They’re polls apart

-

Quick Trump watch update. Last week, in the space of 72 hours, Trump: 1) insulted the family of a dead American soldier; 2) said the US elections would be rigged; 3) called his opponent Hillary Clinton “the devil”; made a point of celebrating something that, just four years later, would completely divide the country? Something that would be used by devious, fear- mongering monsters like Farage and Johnson to take us out of Europe: immigration.

Can you imagine an Olympics opening ceremony that had been designed by a trifecta of, say, Farage, Gove and Hunt? It would have celebrated bankers rather than nurses and would have looked like a cross between the Nuremberg rallies and a drunken EDL march.

Yes, it feels like we’ve all travelled a long way since that night back in the summer of 2012.

This week feels like a good opportunity to ref lect on what Britain looked like when its representation was in the hands of people like Danny Boyle and Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

And what it’s looked like recently in the hands of others. 4) said all the polls were now “phoney”.

This last part is interesting because Trump loved to quote polls when he was leading in them.

He’s not so keen on them now they show him trailing Clinton by an average of nine points.

Of course, after points one to four, I’m sure you’re asking yourself the same question I am: how can he ONLY be nine points behind? How can ANYONE still be thinking of voting for him? Here’s hoping he’s on course for the biggest defeat in US electoral history.

At least that way we’ll all be spared his attempts to sue America if he loses by a narrow margin.
