SOLDIER OF FORTUNE
Neil Lennon last night claimed it would take £5million to shift Jason Cummings from Hibs – and even then they may not sell.
The Easter Road club have knocked back a deal worth £1.7m from Peterborough. And the young striker (right) repaid their faith in him with a double in their 2-1 win at Falkirk yesterday.
Lennon revealed: “I spoke to Barry Fry and to be fair to Peterborough it was a fair offer. They’re not coming in at £300,000.
“But we have no need to sell. From my experience, everyone has a price but I in the top tier, Wallace felt he and his team-mates had let them down.
Yet he is adamant Mark Warburton’s side didn’t underestimate Accies who have been tipped by many as Premiership relegation candidates.
He said: “We gave them due respect. They’re a top-f light team and we’re new to the league. We were aware of their threat and how they play.
“Credit goes to them. They worked their socks off and came with a plan.” Boss Warburton was reluctant to criticise his players and believes they will learn from their first Premiership outing. He said: “We didn’t penetrate enough. We needed to be braver in the final pass. You saw that from Harry Forrester who came on to create the goal. “But it was a good game to get out of the way because of the significance of it. We’ll learn from today.”
