Warbs in swipe at Villa chief

-

took to social media to claim the defender’s switch collapsed because Warburton failed to meet a personal clause in the contract.

Xia tweeted: “No. Lescott didn’t feel happy with personal term missed which the boss promised. RDM& I are men clear with words!”

But Warburton insisted that personal terms were all agreed and that Lescott knocked back the move to Scotland because he didn’t want to uproot his family from Manchester.

The Light Blues gaffer admits he won’t seek an explanation from the Midlands club as that would keep the saga going and he wants to draw a line under it.

He said: “Let me be clear on this, it’s absolute nonsense. The personal terms were all agreed, it’s nothing to do with that.

“The player decided to keep his family in Manchester. He’s well settled with three young children, it’s absolute nonsense to say anything other than that.

“The fact he was up here tells you we were agreed and there wasn’t a problem and it was a big decision on the player’s part. I understand that.

“There is no need to seek answers. If you do that then it rumbles on as there is no story.”

When asked if the Lescott’s medical had flagged something up, Warburton said: “We are not going to justify any such statement – we know what happened, the player knows what happened, it is a big call on his part and we respect it.

“It’s nothing to do with anything other than the player wanting to stay in Manchester.”

Gers will turn attentions again to ex-Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, who has been training with the squad.

Warburton said: “Philippe is in with us and it’s is important we make the right choice and decisions. He’s been first class and trained well.”

Meanwhi le, Warburton revealed he was delighted to net Joe Garner after the striker was unveiled at Ibrox yesterday following a £1.8m move from Preston on a three-year deal.

He said: “I’m delighted to get Joe. We’ve chased him for a long while. He’s got a real edge and offers us something different.”
