Galt’s stunner is no surprise to gaffer Gus
David Galt’s wonder strike sealed victory for Gus MacPherson’s Hampden heroes but the Queen’s Park gaffer wasn’t the least bit surprised by the midfielder’s quality effort.
MacPherson reckons Galt’s 25-yard belter wasn’t as good as last season’s stunner in the play-offs. He said: “We got the goals at good times and the second one from David gave us a bit of breathing space.
“But he scored a better one than that at Clyde in the first leg of the Play- Off Final!
“Although this one came from his weaker foot. He is a talented individual.”
Spiders sealed thei r I rn- Bru Cup fourth-round slot with goals either side of half-time. But the defeat left Morton fans booing their side at the final whistle.
Had they capitalised on a gaffe by Spiders keeper Andrew Murphy in the first half, it may have been a different story.
Murphy delayed booting away a pass-back at the far side of the box allowing Gary Oliver to nip in and try to finish from a narrow angle.
But the keeper recovered to save on the six-yard line. The home side then snatched the lead two minutes from the break when Adam Cummins powered a header down past Ton keeper Andy McNeil.
Within 55 seconds of the restart, Spiders were 2- 0 up when Galt unleashed a ferocious drive that hurtled into the top left corner.
Ton sub Jai Quitongo headed inches past the near post on the hour but it was Spiders who came closest with a cross cum shot from Darren Miller which McNeil pawed away.
Morton manager Jim Duffy said: “I cannot complain about the result. There was no real spark from us today.”
