The Scots who lost their lives in outrage

-

Four Scots were among the 67 Brits who perished in the 9/11 terror atrocity 15 years ago.

IT worker Gavin Cushny, 48, from the Isle of Lewis, was working on the 104th floor of the North Tower when it was hit.

His brother Ruper Eales-White said: “I didn’t know he was working at the World Trade Centre.

“I watched it unfolding – the people jumping from the North Tower or running to the top for a helicopter that never came.

“When I discovered from colleagues and friends in the UK that he had been working there, retrospectively I realised that I had watched my brother die.”

Investment banker Derek Sword, 29, from Monifieth, near Dundee, was working on the 89th floor of the South Tower.

He made three calls to his parents and fiancee to assure them he was OK.

Heartbroken mum Irene said: “Derek rang to say he was fine and told us not to worry. That must have been seconds after the plane went in.”

Glasgow-born Colin McArthur was a senior vice-president of a global finance firm when he died on the 104th floor of the same tower.

The 52-year-old’s widow Brenda set up a scholarship fund in his honour to help children of those who died be educated at Glasgow University.

Healthcare executive Ian Gray, 55, from Wick, Caithness, was on board American Airlines flight 77 when it was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon in Washington.
