Hillary’s apology to Trump support
Hillary Clinton has apologised for labelling half of Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorables”.
The Democrats’ presidential nominee tore into the controversial Republican’s backers in a speech on Friday.
She said: “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.
“The raci st , sex i st , homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it.”
She said the rest of Trump’s supporters were “desperate for change”.
Her Republican rival tweeted: “Wow, Hi l lary Clinton was so insulting to my supporters, millions of amazing, hard- working people. I think it will cost her at the polls.”
Clinton last night said she regretted her remarks and had been “grossly generalistic” and added: “That’s never a good idea.”
Her apology came afterr pollsters said Trump hadd cut her lead in the race to o the White House.
