Star Colin Film is a bridge to the future

Bridget Jones star Colin Firth says the movie franchise could go on for another 50 years.

The Oscar winner, who plays Mark Darcy in the f ilms, reckons pal Renee Zellweger has the ability to keep audiences hooked into her 80s.

Speaking at the premiere of Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third movie in the series, Firth, 56, said: “Now that you have revived it, there is the old people’s home version – we have to look forward to the tubes and bathroom.”

Zellweger said: “I love this experience and I love this character.

“I love the idea that the stor y she tel ls might resonate with people as she moves on in life.”

Author Helen Fielding has penned Mad About The Boy about Bridget in her 50s but no movie has been announced.

The first two films made more than £400million and the latest is likely to net another £200million.

Zel lweger , 47, is back on the big screen after a six- year break f rom Hollywood.

She decided to take time out to return to university.

The actress revealed how she enjoyed being out of the public eye.

She said: “When you go away and you’re out of people’s consciousn­ess, they stop noticing you.

“It’s fantastic – you order your coffee and you get a coffee and leave.”

Bridget Jones’s Baby is out this week.
