Lenny blasts sloppy Jason

Cummings given hook despite firing winner

- Iain King

Jason Cummings won the match for Hibees again – and was then given the hook and an earbashing from demanding boss Neil Lennon.

The prolific striker took his haul for the season to seven with the 31st minute penalty that settled this.

Yet he blew three first-half chances and was hauled off in the 65th minute to make way for Brian Graham.

Boss Lenny left the 21-yearold front man in no doubt he expects better.

He said: “Jason missed two or three sitters and I was not happy with his display.

“He has been away with Scotland and has come back very rusty for some reason.

“I need to keep on him to keep his standards up, even if you tend to forget he is still only 21. He has seven goals already and he is priceless to us but there’s a sloppiness to some of his play.

“Jason tried to chip the goalie and I was raging at that, he should be more ruthless. Still, I can’t tell people how to score, I wasn’t exactly great at it myself.

“As for the penalty, Buchanan went over the top of him, it wasn’t a dive.”

Lenny insists Cummings can learn from veteran strike partner Grant Holt. He added: “Grant was excellent, if there is a ny you ng player wanting to play centre-forward they should watch him. He’s not a Torres but the way he holds the ball up is so clever.”

Hibees star Cummings could have had four.

John McGinn’s deep cross to Paul Hanlon set him up back post but home keeper Alan Martin clawed his volley off the line.

Another McGinn centre was headed by David Gray, Buchanan wrestled Holt to the ground and ref Greg Aitken pointed to the spot.

Cummings slotted home but moments later he tried a cute dink before heading over in a great position.

Sons boss Stevie Aitken said: “I felt their penalty was harsh, Gregor wanted to win it and Holt stood his ground. “I would have screamed for it at the other end. If it’s only a penalty between us and a team like Hibs, that is testimony to my players.”
