Man by Man

- Scott McDermott’s

WES FODERINGHAM

Started well, especially with ball at his feet as Rangers’ sweeper keeper. Pulled off saves from Sinclair and Armstrong but let down badly by his defence for Celtic’s five goals.

JAMES TAVERNIER

Popped up with a great cross for Miller which led to Garner’s goal but was rarely an attacking threat. More concerned with defensive work and was exposed as Rangers crumbled.

ROB KIERNAN

Began like a man possessed and was solid defensively with blocks and clearances. But gifted possession to Bitton which let Dembele in behind him as Rangers conceded a second.

PHILIPPE SENDEROS

Skinned by Dembele as the striker made it 2-0 to Celtic when he was miles away from partner Kiernan. Toiled in second half and sent off for second yellow after handling ball.

LEE WALLACE

Composed on ball in tight areas during first half when Rangers passed it well. But was pinned back more in second period and didn’t link with McKay to any great effect on left flank.

JOEY BARTON

Offered very little in middle of the park. Ran about a lot in front of back four but rarely got close to Celtic’s players or made positive impact. Talked the talk but didn’t walk the walk.

KENNY MILLER

Grafted away on right side of Rangers attack without getting in behind Celtic. Most of his work was done going back the way but did provide header for Garner goal that briefly got his side back in the contest.

JOSH WINDASS

Rangers’ standout performer who didn’t deserve to lose 5-1. Kept the ball, drove at Celtic’s defence and made purposeful passes. Had a hand in Garner goal and was a shining light for Warburton.

NIKO KRANJCAR

Given the nod ahead of Halliday but the gamble didn’t pay off. Showed a few nice touches but was overrun and knackered before the break when he was subbed.

BARRIE McKAY

Lively early on and close control was excellent. But fell out of the game as Celtic took control. Had one decent curling shot that flew just wide at 2-1 but rarely seen after that.

JOE GARNER

Tough shift as lone striker against Toure and Sviatchenko but at least gave Rangers a physical presence. Lost Dembele for opener at corner but nodded in to make it 2-1 before the break.

SUBS: Andy Halliday – replaced Kranjcar and kept ball better than Croat, 5. Martyn Waghorn – on for Miller but doesn’t look fully fit, 2. Harry Forrester – on for Kiernan, 2. Not used: Gilks, Hill, Hodson, O’Halloran.
