Memorial events from Glasgow to New York

-

A service to mark the 15th anniversary of the Twin Tower attacks will be held in Glasgow today as part of a series of events to honour the victims.

Charity Glasgow the Caring City also marked the fifth and 10th anniversaries with tribute services.

Reverend Neil Galbraith, who works at the charity, said: “It is of great importance to our American families and many Scots as well.

“So on Sunday at 11am we will once again mark this day.”

The service, which will be held in Cathcart Old Church, will be recorded and posted on YouTube for families of the victims in New York.

Across the Atlantic, a live stream of the commemoration ceremony from Ground Zero will be aired.

At 8.46am, the Bell of Hope at St Paul’s Chapel will toll, marking the first plane’s collision into the Trade Centre 15 years ago.

The bell was a gift from London to the people of New York. It was presented by the mayor of London in 2002.

The New York City Fire Museum will hold a memorial for members killed in the attacks.

The Tribute in Light at Ground Zero will be open from 3pm until midnight for viewing. The illuminated memorial shines four miles into the sky and can be seen in a 60-mile radius, with the shapes echoing the Twin Towers.

The NYPD held a parade on Friday in honour of their members lost on 9/11.
