How many miles of canal are there in Scotland? – M Garrity, Greenock

In total, there are 135 miles of canal in Scotland. There are four canals: the Union, the Forth & Clyde, the Crinan and the Caledonian.

The Union Canal is 31 miles long and runs from Falkirk to Edinburgh.

The Forth & Clyde is 35 miles long and connects the river Carron at Grangemout­h to the river Clyde at Bowling, while the Crinan Canal is only nine miles long and runs from Crinan to Ardrishaig.

The Caledonian is the longest canal, stretching 60 miles from the east coast at Inverness to the west coast at Corpach, near Fort William.
