De Vries just can’t make firm impact

- Scott S McDermott’s

Of all the Old Firm debutants Dorus de Vries was probably the least talked about in the build up to yesterday’s showdown.

With all the hype and focus on the likes of Joey Barton, Scott Sinclair, Niko Kranjcar and Moussa Dembele, the Dutchman’s presence in the fixture almost slipped under the radar.

And the truth is, that hadn’t changed much at the full-time whistle.

The former Swansea and Nottingham Forest keeper is now Brendan Rodgers’ first-choice ahead of Craig Gordon (left) but the Celtic boss had a right go at him on the touchline for dwelling on the ball too much early on.

His only other moment of note was when the keeper picked the ball out of the net after Joe Garner’s goal.

He’d hardly made a save when Kenny Miller’s header looped over him and allowed Garner to make it 2-1 just before half-time.

At the other end, it’s fair to say that Wes Foderingham was a tad busier.

Early on, the Englishman was excellent with the ball at his feet and acted as a sweeper for Mark Warburton’s side.

But as the game wore on he was forced into decent saves from Sinclair, Stuart Armstrong and James Forrest.

He had little chance with any of Celtic’s five goals and in truth was left exposed by a ropey Rangers rearguard in front of him.
