Soap star My agony over IVF failures

-

Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson has told of his heartbreak at four failed attempts to become a father with a surrogate mother.

The 30-year-old soap star and husband Carl Hyland have been trying for a family for 14 months.

Kieron, who plays Ste Hay, said: “We were hoping to have a baby this year.

“Unfor tunately, l ike anyone who is trying for a baby through IVF – whether they are gay couples or not – it is a lottery.

“The statistics when we first started it were a 70 per cent success rate.

“We’ve tried it four times, with the same surrogate mum, and we have fallen into that 30 per cent bracket of it not working.

“But we have not given up the fight and are still continuing. We are going to keep trying until it is successful.”

The couple embarked on their parenting quest in July last year. They have not identified their surrogate or how they found her.

The pair, who got married last year, have faith that she will be able to bear a child.

Kieron added: “Everyone is fit and healthy, yet it is not working. We won’t look for another mother. It is just one of those things. We won’t stop until we have our baby.”

The Manchester actor has been in Hollyoaks since 2007 and in 2009 his character became a single dad.

In 2010 Kieron appeared on TV skating show Dancing On Ice. He came out later that year on ITV’s This Morning.
