LOUIS JOLT
Motherwell hero Louis Moult bagged four goals for the first time as he ran riot against Hamilton – then revealed he tried to pass up the landmark strike. Moult (left) thrilled Well fans by scoring a hat-trick inside 21 minutes to set
the stage for a 4-2 derby win. But when he had the chance to grab his fourth from the spot, Moult was ready to give the penalty to Ryan Bowman – until boss Mark McGhee blew his top.
The striker said: “I had already scored a hat-trick so I thought it would be nice to get Ryan off the mark.
“Ryan said: ‘Can I have it?’ and I just told him to go ahead – but I looked over my shoulder and the gaffer was screaming. At that point I thought I better take it!
“I said to him: ‘ Bowie, I think the gaffer wants me to take it’ and he said: ‘ Yeah, fair enough Moulty, go and score.’ Thankfully I did.
“I’ve never scored four goals in a game before. That’s only my second hat-trick. My last one was against Dartford for Nuneaton a couple of years ago. Let’s hope I can get a few more.”
Moult now boasts seven goals f rom fou r appearances this season and is ready to push on after a groin injury.
The Englishman, who hit 18 goals last term, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing.
“It just about sunk in there when the boys were signing the match ball.
“It’s a fantastic start for me but more importantly we’ve scored goals and beaten Hamilton, our rivals.
“I did well last season and will be delighted if I can better that. We’ll see.”
It was a frustrating day for Accies but winger Dougie Imrie claimed it would have been a different story had Georgios Sarris not fluffed a tap-in at 3-1.
He said: “We had chances. It could have been anything out there – 5-5 or 6- 6.
“When it went to 3-1, Motherwell were all over the place. Wee Ali Crawford hit the post and Georgios missed from a yard.
“But we gave away a stupid penalty at the start of the second half and it killed us.”
