Ted Cruz I’ll vote for lying Donald
Defeated Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz says he will vote for Donald Trump – despite calling him a “pathological liar”
Trump eagerly seized on the statement a s an “endorsement”, despite Cruz not using the word, and said he was “greatly honoured”.
But the tone of the Texan senator’s statement was one of resignation at the prospect of voting for Trump, who he also called “utterly amoral”.
The pair traded insults in the race for the Republican nomination, with Trump calling Cruz “Lyin’ Ted”.
He also hinted Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of John F Kennedy.
Cruz wrote: “After … careful consideration, prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided I will vote for the Republ ican nominee, Donald Trump.”
The statement came as Trump and Democrat Hi l lary Cl inton remain locked in a tight race.
Clinton addressed the shift on social media by posting a previous tweet from Cruz calling on Trump to release his tax returns.
Clinton’s running mate, Virginia senator Tim Kaine, took his own dig while on the campaign trail in Texas.
Referring to the slurs over the Kennedy assassination, he said: “If somebody said that about my dad, they would never have me as a supporter for anything.”
