Layers barking at Moon with Racer’s price

-

Perth was the focus of attention during the week with the big clash between potential superstars Moon Racer and Ballyandy.

Having the last two Champion Bumper winners clash on their debuts over timber at Scone Palace Park was a fitting way for their season to end.

The track has gained massive kudos in recent years and the sight of Gordon Elliott, David Pipe and Nigel Twiston-Davies kicking around adds deserved sparkle.

The showdown between Moon Racer and Ballyandy didn’t disappoint. Although Pipe’s fragile beast won, Twister’s ace lost nothing in defeat.

Both will be good prospects, although the reaction of some bookies to Moon Racer’s win was, frankly, laughable.

One f i rm in particular halved Moon Racer’s odds and made him 8-1 favourite for the Supreme ne x t Ma r ch , which is a comedy price given his notorious injury record.

Although those two dominated the day, it was a less competitive event later on the card which caught my eye.

The two-and-a-half mile handicap chase is building a reputation for unleashing some highly talented horses like Carlito Brigante and Attaglance.

Twister has also put a few good ones this way with Double Ross and Splash Of Ginge winning good races in the first half of the season at big venues having prepped at Perth.

Flying Angel was entitled to win this year’s renewal as he did. Punted into 4-7, defeat was unthinkable but we are talking about a novice who was a sparkling hurdler.

An Imperial Cup winner who also finished in the money at Cheltenham and Aintree this spring, he should have been 1-10.

Twister jokingly wiped his brow in relief as he welcomed Flying Angel down the walkway at Perth and no wonder.

That first test passed was crucial and keep a close eye on this one if he goes to Prestbury Park for any of the big handicap chases before Santa Claus appears. Unlike Moon Racer, you might get some juicy value.

Belting three days coming up with Musselburgh today, Hamilton tomorrow and Ayr on Tuesday. Good fare at all three tracks and well worth a visit.
