Yanks have finally clued up when it comes to our secret weapon...passion

day. Love didn’t make a mess of it in Medinah, as shown by the fact they won every session on the first two days. His downfall was that Europe played some inspired golf on the last day and holed more putts.

Expect to see more of the same from Love, albeit with an even stronger group of players, and even more emphasis on the team unity that Azinger fostered so effectively.

The other factor in America’s favour is the rookie count.

Half the European team are firsttimers. Only one – Brooks Koepka – has never donned the Stars and Stripes on the biggest stage of all.

Such an abundance of experience could tempt Love to freshen things up with another rookie late tonight when he names his fourth and final wildcard pick.

Whether it’s the world No.7 but notorious loner Bubba Watson or an exciting young talent like Justin Thomas or Daniel Berger could be one of the defining calls of Love’s captaincy.

Just how bold is he? How much is he willing to deliver on a two-year quest to rip up the formula and start again?

The indications so far suggest the captain is bold indeed.

Now he must pray his players are equally so in order to smile and highf ive their way through the most intense pressure they will ever experience in their careers.
