Survival fight for Stefan

-

Stefan Laird is convinced Aberdeen can overcome bottom-of-the-table Forfar Farmington today and haul themselves out of the drop zone.

With just f ive league games remaining the Dons boss knows the Heathryfold Park clash could be key to their SWPL1 survival.

Laird said: “If we win we would be 10 points clear with a vastly superior goal difference. It would make it diff icult for Forfar who would need to win all four remaining league games – but not impossible.

“We’re not taking this lightly. It will be tough as I believe Forfar are a lot better than the table shows. It will be a great game and the league will be losing a good team no matter what eventually happens.”

City also crushed thirdplaced Celtic 5- 0 in their last game before the international break so both Old Firm teams will be looking to bounce back when they face each other at the K Park.

Kevin Murphy admits he was left shaking his head after things went so wrong against Stirling but insists his players will be more than ready for this challenge as they look to narrow Celts’ nine-point advantage.

The Gers boss said: “You always want to beat your rivals but it’s still about getting the three points.

“Despite losing a few player s , wit h C la i re Johnstone leaving and Rhianna Tweedie joining Jeanfield Swifts, we also have a few players back from injury.

“So we will have a competitive squad and will be looking to perform well.”
