transport. Now the club have waded into the row by claiming their request for a reasonable kick-off time for their fans was ignored.

And in a hard- hitting st atement , they a lso revealed they had asked for the game to be held away from the National Stadium at a ground they could have packed out rather than left half-empty.

The statement said: “Our stated preference was that the game took place at a more reasonable time on the Saturday (October 22) at a venue that would ensure a capacity attendance.

“It is, from an attendance perspective, very regrettable extremely difficult game, as expected. Hamburg played with a lot of intensity and were well positioned.

“They made it hard for us. It was slightly different in the second half and we managed to use our chance.”

Ex- Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez scored a hat-trick, including a stoppage-time winner, as Bayer Leverkusen twice came from behind for a lastgasp 3-2 win over Mainz 05.

Theodor Gebre Selassie also left it late when he headed in a stoppage-time winner as Werder Bremen came from a goal down to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 for their first win after four defeats.

Meanwhile, an own goal from Palermo’s Edoardo Goldaniga was enough to give champions Juventus a 1- 0 victory as the Turin side extended their lead at the top of Serie A to four points.

Brazilian defender Dani Alves, who joined from Barcelona in the summer, saw his effort take a wicked deflection off Goldaniga’s leg to hand Juve their fifth win in six league matches.

In France, Lyon failed to bui ld on thei r 5 - 1 Ligue 1 win over Montpellier in midweek as Jimmy Cabot grabbed the only goal for Lorient. that the game kicks off at 12.15pm, which is a major disadvantage to our fantastic travelling fans in particular for games such as these.

“Regarding the choice of venue, we understand and accept that it is for all clubs to indicate the crowd they ant icipate taking and Hampden Park was chosen on this basis.

“We accept that the majority of our supporters would have had to travel for at least a couple of hours to attend this fixture at any suitable venue but are disappointed as we feel this outcome has a very negative impact on what should be a great day out and experience for all supporters.”
