Fans hit out at champ’s drug test film taunts

-

Troubled boxing champ Tyson Fury has likened himself to fictional drugs kingpin Tony Montana after becoming engulfed in a cocaine scandal.

The heavyweight fighter, who tested positive for the Class A drug, mocked the authorities by photoshopping an image of his face on to Al Pacino’s character from the movie Scarface.

He risked the wrath of antidoping agencies by accompanying the image with the hashtag “Tysonmontana”, a reference to the cult 1984 film about the drugs trade in Miami.

In the famous image, Montana is wearing a pin-stripe suit, slumped in a chair with piles of the cocaine on a table next to a glass of whisky.

It comes just 24 hours after it emerged inspectors from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency had discovered traces of the drug in Fury’s urine after a routine test.

He later pulled out of a proposed rematch with Wladimir Klitschko claiming he was battling depression and was “medically unfit” to fight. Last night, fans lashed out at the boxer. One Twitter user, Wez Siddons, wrote: “This from a ‘world champion’, role model and ambassador for boxing. Joke.”

And others who had already made plans to travel to Manchester for his re-match with Klitschko also lashed out.

One Twitter user wrote: “I didn’t book two sets of flights and two hotels for this.”

And Scott Sadler replied: “Absolute disgrace mate.”

Fury tested positive for cocaine on September 22 – a day before he pulled out of the proposed bout.

He was forced to scrap the original July 9 date due to an ankle injury, but was scheduled to put the WBA super and WBO titles on the line at the Manchester Arena on October 29. Despite being at the centre of a drugs scandal and with his career hanging in the balance, Fury last week returned to his hometown of Morecambe, Lancashire, where he partied in a seaside boozer until 2am.
