Outrage at tour in Maddie hol resort

-

Holidaymakers are being of fered a sightseeing tour of the town where Madeleine McCann vanished.

The trips take visitors to the apartment where the missing three-year-old was last seen alive and the tapas restaurant where her parents were dining when she vanished in 2007.

The organiser also takes his clients to nearby wasteland which police dug up in a search on Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve.

Visitors are even invited to speculate on the role of Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry.

The tours – dubbed the Luz Challenge – have sparked outrage.

One British expat who lives in the area said: “This is in appalling taste. A little girl going missing should not be made into a game or a challenge.”

The tours are being advertised on the internet by a British grandad in his 60s, said to have become fixated with the case since moving to Praia da Luz.

A source said: “The guide is obsessed with Maddie. He’s written thousands of words about the case and pored over maps, photos and police transcripts.”

According to the blog used to advertise the tours, trips took place throughout the summer with a fourth planned for later this year.

British police are still investigating the disappearance of Maddie, of Rothley, Leicestershire.

The tour guide failed to reply despite several attempts to contact him.
