BAP TO BASICS FOR SCOTS DUO ON COOK SHOW

-

Forget soggy bottoms, it’s burnt baps that are nearly the undoing of two Scots contestants on Channel 4’s latest cooking show.

Pals Nicola Mair and Ami Larsen are the first amateur chefs to put their pinnies on in the new series of My Kitchen Rules UK, which sees duos create pop- up restaurants in their own homes for the judges and rival contestants to savour.

The friends, from Glasgow, who named their eaterie Two Hungry Weegies, say cremating the bread rolls was just a small blip in what was one of the best nights of their lives.

Nicola, 42, who works in recruitment, said: “We had a few hai ry moments including when we burnt the rolls to a crisp but overall things went really well.

“We wanted to create a Scots-themed restaurant with a twist and luckily it was a hit right down to the lift your kilt menus and our Jimmy hats.

“It was a privilege to take part in the show. It’s like Bake Off, Masterchef and the Great British Menu all rolled into one.”

The series – which offers a £10,000 prize – is based on the successful Australian show My Kitchen Rules.

Contestants from across the UK are scrutinised by judges Michael Caines, a Michelin starred restaurateur, and Michelin starred queen of home cooks and food writer Prue Leith.

Tomorrow’s programme is based in Scotland.

The other cooks are Nansai Azucema and Rebecca Akhigbe and Hugh McKenna and Steve Simpson in Edinburgh and Paula and David Brown on the Isle of Lewis.
