Hibs’ style is a Ray of sunshine

-

Ray McKinnon is craving 90 minutes of freedom at Easter Road after having the bus parked in front of him all season.

Dundee United go into the Championship game with title favourites Hibs as underdogs for the first time all season.

And the Terrors boss hopes his side take advantage of that to seal their first back-to-back league victories this term.

He said: “It’s going to be a more open game, which is good.

“A lot of teams we’ve come up against recently have been solid and not very adventurous.

“I’m not being disrespectful but it might suit our talented players that there is more space and they’re not coming up against two banks of four.

“I’m hopeful that suits us as much as it will suit them being at home, letting everyone showcase their ability.”

Despite Hibs dropping five points in their past two games McKinnon insists they’re still an unreasonable yardstick to hold United up against.

He said: “We pressed the reset button at the start of the season.

“We had to really flip the club up and down. We’ve had to build a new team and they’ve had their team in place – that’s just a fact.

“But we don’t compare ourselves one bit.

“We’ll do our thing this season and hopefully we’re right there challenging at the end. There’s no point referencing ourselves against Hibs – they’re in place, they’ve got their budgets.

“We’re not the same club as we were last year, the finances aren’t the same, it’s a completely differently run club, so we just have to do our own thing and try to restructure the club as we go.

“I just think we’re going to get better as the season goes on and everybody starts gelling.

“I still feel we need one more player that can give us a boost and it’s not going to happen until January. We’re a work in progress. But I have to say, the fans have been phenomenal.”
