Hibs will wait for Bayern

alongside Gary MacKenzie. Just nine minutes in they were behind once more and again there was a slice of miserable misfortune about the goal.

Bairns midfielder Sibbald lined up a free-kick he’d won himself 22 yards out.

The effort from his wand of a left foot was poor by his lofty standards but it ripped into the wall and def lected through and past Jamie Langfield.

McManus sighed: “It was another freak goal and that has happened so often this season but you have to stop feeling sorry for yourselves.”

When Ryan Hardie checked into St Mirren from Rangers on loan he could scarcely have believed he was walking into a relegation battle.

That’s what it is now, though, and it’s draining his confidence. He hesitated to pull the trigger on the home side’s one big f irst- hal f opening and squandered the chance. After the break it seemed as if another deflection, this time on a John Baird shot, had brought the second but the offside flag cut short Bob McHugh’s celebrations. Then came that late Walsh stunner and Bairns boss Peter Houston sighed: “St Mirren had two shots at goal and it feels like a defeat.

“Yet we have had a few break recently with late goals ourselves and we have to try and take the positive that we have come to a difficult place and dominated.

“With Raith losing and Queens losing a couple of points we could have made a mark on the teams round about us.” Joelle Murray insists Hibs won’t lose focus at Forfar today as they gear up for this week’s clash against Bayern Munich.

Mur ray admit s the excitement is bui lding ahead of Wednesday’s visit by the German giants to Easter Road.

But first up for Chris Roberts’ side is their SWLP1 trip to bottom club Forfar Farmington.

The Hibs captain said: “Forfar are a good side so we’ll be focused.”

For fans though, the Edinburgh women’s first Champions League tie in nine years can’t come soon enough.

Mur ray said: “We’re hoping for a big crowd and that will help us on the night – the more the better.”

Formidable Scotland forward Lisa Evans could feature for Bayern and Murray added: “I’ve been speaking to Lisa and we’re both looking forward to this.”

Glasgow City take on Aberdeen this afternoon before packing their bags to fly to Sweden for their last-32 tie against Eski lstuna United on Thursday.
