County goal drought continues as slick Saints stroll

- Alasdair Fraser

Ross County their way and a stunned MacDonald said: “It was a ball dinked over the top and I have got there first. The boy Maddison has come in and he nails me. “The next thing I know the whistle has gone and Willie tells me it’s a penalty for pulling him back. I’ve seen the footage and still don’t know how he gave the decision. “You have to respect the referee. He has seen something but it killed us as we were just starting to settle into the game. “Then they get a penalty out of nothing. I was a bit dazed at the time but Willie said it was a coming together initially.

“Had he got the ball and poked it towards me and it happened I might have understood that. But it’s not even a 50-50. It’s a 70-30 for me.

“I’ve got the ball by the time he gets to me. What can you do? He just absolutely melted me. It was a genuine attempt for the ball.

“Even if the ref played on I’d have said to him: ‘Any chance of a foul?’ But he gave a penalty and it’s costly.”

MacDonald was aggrieved but the bottom line from the contest was that, regardless of whether or not Collum had given the decision, Aberdeen would have won anyway.

Derek McInnes’ side dominated and could have scored many more than the four they chalked up as they sauntered back into second spot in the Premiership.

Strong and solid at the back, hard until Monday how serious it is. County also gave a f irst start to 18-year- old striker Greg Morrison but it was Saints who were quickly on the front foot and finally opened the scoring just before the break.

McEveley was judged to have tripped Kane, with the striker going nowhere in the box and the defender claiming he couldn’t get out of the way. Swanson found the bottom right corner of the net, sending Scott Fox the wrong way.

Judging by the way they came out after half-time, County had taken verbals from McIntyre. Immediately they were on the front foot.
