To victory in Dingwall

-

working with and without the ball, the Dons were also dangerous out wide, the creative talents of Maddison again at the forefront of their show.

Having scored against Dundee and Rangers in his last two top-flight outings, the Norwich kid had a hand in three goals.

Rooney’s spot-kick separated the sides at the interval but MacDonald had already denied Jonny Hayes and Niall McGinn and Anthony O’Connor volleyed over.

The second and third came from Maddison corners. One deep from the right, which Considine flashed into the net, and one flipped over the other side for Taylor to do the same.

Rooney missed a couple of snips before while McEveley saw a strong header tipped over by Zander Clark.

County’s attacking exertions left them vulnerable at the back, though, and they were caught by a classic sucker-punch after 73 minutes. A Saints brea k ended wi th sub Dav id Wotherspoon playing Kane in and the striker calmly stroked the ball past Fox.

Boyce exited injured leaving County to play with 10 men for the final minutes and Saints were never in danger.

Perth boss Tommy Wright said: “It was comfortable but to make it like that you have to play well – and we played extremely well.

“In the first half we were excellent – the best we’ve been with the ball this season. We put County under a lot of pressure and they defended quite well.

“We were maybe a bit over-elaborate in the last third but we deserved to be 1- 0 up. We knew they would come at us at the start of the second half and we probably helped them in that respect.

“There’s nothing wrong with just clearing your lines and getting the ball down the pitch and we didn’t do that.

“But in that spell we still created chances and we had very good counter-attacking play. The second goal was a prime example of that.

“Chris Kane deserved his goal. He’s been unlucky in front of goal and has worked very hard for the team. It was a great finish so I’m very pleased for him.”
