Mum files for divorce over TV host’s affair with friend
Richard Keys’s heartbroken wife yesterday said he is “disgusting” and accused him of destroying their family after discovering his affair with a family friend.
Julia, who has thyroid cancer, is filing for divorce from the TV soccer host after it emerged he cheated on her with lawyer Lucie Rose, 27.
Keys, 59, who lost his £ 500,000- a- year Sky Sports job over a sexism scandal, yesterday faced a barrage of taunts from fans.
But in a bizarre online posting, he described the reaction to the news of his fling as “a mixed bag”.
Julia was pulling no punches as she revealed he has been trying to get back with her.
S he said: “It ’s disgusting what Richard and Lucie have done, what they have put me through and knowing about my condition.
“It’s not only me but the rest of the family, including my son and daughter.”
Asked if she blames her husband’s mistress, Julia, 56, said: “I blame Lucie because she came into our lives and I thought she was our friend.”
She added: “I have instigated divorce proceedings. He is not divorcing me.
“He has been begging me to get back together with him and said he has no intention of staying with her.
“But enough is enough. I have to look after myself. It has had a negative impact on my health but that has to take priority now. I’ve got to move on.” Julia was speaking at her home in Berkshire hours after her husband’s infidelity was revealed.
She had been travelling back and forth from Britain to Qatar – where Keys works for English language sports network BeIN – before finding out about the affair at the end of May.
She claims Keys initially told her he had called the affair off before she found out it was still going on.
Keys, who has previously admitted behaving in a “pre historic way” towards women, yesterday wrote on Twitter: “I expected a mixed bag of reaction – thanks for the support.”
Keys moved to a villa in Qatari capital Doha with Julia after leaving his job at Sky Sports in disgrace when he and co-host Andy Gray made sexist off- air remarks in 2011.
It is understood he and Julia were later introduced to Lucie by a pal on the expat social circuit in Doha. According to networking site LinkedIn, Lucie used to have a job with the Qatari investment authority and now works as a private equity lawyer for Baker & McKenzie.
It is believed Keys is preparing to fly back to Britain next week.
Lucie, now living in London, has refused to comment on her relationship with Keys.
