Inverurie Buck the Cup trend

HIGHLAND LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Buckie Thistle saw their lead at the top trimmed to three points after failing to repeat last weekend’s Scottish Cup thumping of Inverurie Locos in the league.

Having thrashed the hosts 6- 0 last weekend, Locos rallied to hold the leaders to a 1-1 draw – with both sides finishing with 10 men.

Locos’ Michael Selfridge netted the opener after nine minutes, but Kevin Fraser’s 32nd-minute reply wrapped up the day’s scoring.

The hosts then had Kieran Adams sent packing on the hour as tempers f lared, while Buckie’s Craig Dorrat walked six minutes later.

Buckie boss Graeme Stewart said: “We’re still unbeaten. We should have sneaked it at the end but it was a really tough game.”

Locos boss Scott Buchan said: “We just concentrat­ed on putting right what we had done wrong.”

Brora Rangers closed the gap at the top with a 2- 0 home win over Fraserburg­h. Zander Sutherland netted both the goals.

Cove Rangers hammered Fort William 6-2 in Lochaber with Jonny Smith grabbing a double for the defending champions.

Hunt ly won derby honours with a 2-1 home win over Keith thanks to strikes by Joe Burr and Neale Allan.

James McLaren gave Rothes a vital win in the basement battle as he netted the only goal away to Strathspey Thistle.

Wick Academy were held to a 2-2 draw by Deveronval­e at Harmsworth with both sides leading at stages before Sam Mackay earned a point for the hosts from the spot.

LOWLAND LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Dalbeattie Star boss Darren Kerr described his side’s 4-3 win against Spartans as one of the worst performanc­es of the season – until his side turned the game on its head.

They were 3-1 down but hit three goals in the final eight minutes to pull off a stunning win. Kerr said: “We did so many things wrong.”

East Kilbride beat Vale of Leithen 2-1 to make it 22 wins in a row for manager Martin Lauchlan.

Selkirk were 4- 0 winners over BSC Glasgow. Preston Athletic beat Stirling Uni 4- 3 while Gala Fairydean and Cumbernaul­d drew 2-2.

Edinburgh Uni beat Whitehall Welfare 2- 0.

East Stirling shire thrashed Gretna 2008 5- 0 with David Grant hitting a hat-trick.
