Lambhill Stables, Glasgow
Lambhill is sadly an area which is known more for its problems with crime than celebrated community projects.
At the Lambhill Stables, however, work is going on to change that perception.
In what has traditionally been an under-privileged part of Glasgow, the project has brought together local people to turn a derelict stables building into a thriving green space, including allotments, a vegetable garden, landscaping and community area.
People can get hands-on experience to learn about gardening, flowers, fruit and general land management.
Funded by Glasgow City Council and the Big Lottery Fund Growing Community Assets programme, the project has been in development for many years and works with local schools to get children involved.
It also won an award from the Government for helping people doing community service to learn skills and rehabilitate themselves while paying their debt to society.
The Stables provide activities and classes for locals of all ages. From canoeing, youth clubs and cycling for kids to computer and cooking courses for the over-60s, there is something for everyone.
Lambhill Stables is a vibrant community hub and social enterprise which is brightening the lives of everyone in the area.
